Collingwood's Drew Wright is in the final three.

The 28-year-old singer advanced to the next round in the Canadian Idol competition, with a pair of performances on Monday.

His first performance, of Anne Murray's Hey Daddy, received accolades from all four judges.
Zack Werner felt the former CCI student has turned a corner.

Judge Farley Flex felt is was Wright's best vocal performance to date.

"I gotta tell you Drew, I thought vocally that was your best performance yet. You were so clear, so concise, a really good song choice, and you looked really comfortable. The advice you were given you took it to heart. Really, really nice performance," he said.

Jake gold said it was the best Wright has done on the show to date.

"By far the best singing you've ever done on this show by a mile, good work," said Gold.

In an interview with Jully Black before his performance, Wright said being home for the concert in Collingwood energized him.

Before his performance Wright worked with Murray, who gave some poignant advice.

"This guitar, this is a part of you, isn't it?" Murray asked. "You play it very well by the way. But I'm hearing a lot of bending of notes... your vocals were going with the guitar. Make the guitar playing a little bit simpler and you just focus on that vocal first and foremost. He's so musical, he's trying to do it all, he's trying to do too much but I think he should concentrate on his vocals and make those the best they can be."

For Wright's next song, he performed Gravity by John Mayer.

Werner didn't like the performance and felt he should have taken Murray's advice and focused on singing, rather than playing the guitar.

Gold was a little hesitant of Wright's song choice, but thought he did a good job.

"I thought playing a blues number, uh, you know, we've seen it kind of before. I do want to say I like you without the beard better. I think it's a good look for you and you're actually dressing way better since I made that comment about your dress a while back. I'm glad you're listening.

"But the other thing is there was a moment there where I thought you sounded a lot like Jim Cuddy (of Blue Rodeo) and by the way, that's a really good thing," said Gold.

Hundreds of supporters packed JD's Bar and Grill on Tuesday to watch the results show, where Earl Stevenson was voted off the show, which leaves Wright, Theo Tams and Mitch McDonald, still in the running for the Idol title.
