Wasaga Artists exhibit at annual fall show

The Thanksgiving Art Show and Sale takes place this weekend featuring the work of about 21 local artists, all members of Wasaga Artists.

Wasaga Artists president Dave Nichols said the group is mostly made up of painters who work in oil, acrylic and oil and create landscapes, portraits, still lifes and abstract art. The show will also include sculpture, pottery, woodcarving and photography.

"We don't mind if people just want to come and browse around just for the sake of the art," said Nichols.

"You never know what you could stumble across - something that can accumulate in value."

The artist group formed in 1973. Nichols has been a member for six years.

"This has always been a good show," said Nichols.

The Thanksgiving Art Show is one of three major exhibitions put on by the group every year.

Members also open their studios in the spring for a studio tour and set up outdoors in the summer during Art in the Park.

Nichols said many members work full-time as artists, noting many are also retired.

He invites people to come to the show and speak with the artists. He also encourages people to consider adding local work to their art collections, choosing an original, local piece over a mass produced print.

Wasaga Artists' Thanksgiving Art Show and Sale takes place in the Oakview Room at the RecPlex from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
