Ragtime master Midland-bound

It’s almost boogie-woogie time in Midland.

World-renowned ragtime pianist Bob Milne will be taking to the stage Oct. 19 at St. Paul’s United Church, where he will dazzle the audience with his fun-loving, saloon-style brand of entertainment.

Milne – a self-taught pianist – has been performing for audiences around the world for nearly 40 years.

Huronia Players is hosting the concert as part of its ongoing fundraising campaign for the reconstruction of the group’s theatre on William Street.

To date, about $500,000 has been raised, but the troupe found itself facing a major roadblock when the cost of the project suddenly escalated.

Publicity and marketing director Rita Groves said having recently listened to several of Milne’s CDs, she is anxiously awaiting his performance.

“I thought, ‘How fabulous. I can’t wait until he comes because he is unbelievable,’” she said, adding landing Milne for a Midland concert is a pretty big deal.

“We were very fortunate to get him. I’m looking forward to an afternoon of sheer delight and a successful fundraiser. I really hope people will come out and support this event.”

Tickets for the concert – which begins at 2 p.m. – are $20. They are available at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre or at the door.
